Ball Not in Hand
The Cubs continue to mystify and be mystified -- they beat 17-game winner Carl Pavano 5-1 with Aramis Ramirez on the bench, but lose to hapless journeyman Dave Weathers 2-5 in the nightcap of the doubleheader that could've nudged us into sole possession of first place in the National League wildcard race. We're so inconsistent we can't even create a pretty palindrome out of today's dismal draw at Pro Player Stadium -- a 5-1/1-5 conclusion would've at least drawn a smirk from the Baseball Tonight boys.
